Design/Walk Through

[Back to main property page]

The house is believed to have been built in 1978.  It is of a distinctive and airy open design.  The main level is largely open plan, with floor to ceiling windows lining one side, a huge soaring ceiling, and further light coming in from skylights.

It is on three levels, and because it is on a sloped lot, that means the lower level opens to the outside at ground level on its NW facing side, and the main middle level opens to the outside at ground level on its opposite SE facing side.

When you enter from the driveway via the formal entrance, onto the middle level, you have the main “great room” directly in front.  This is the living and dining areas.  It is two stories high, with a sloped ceiling at the top, and has some built in book cases and cabinetry, and a fireplace with doors.  Going left takes you through to the kitchen and family/informal dining areas.  Both the formal dining and the kitchen/informal dining areas open out to a large outside deck.

This level is mainly finished with hardwood floors, but there’s a nice piece of carpet in the main living room.

Going through the kitchen and family area takes you to the door to the double garage.  The double garage has storage space in the ceiling above the concrete pad.  The garage is generously sized for two cars and for storing stuff around the three sides as well.

If you turned right instead of left after entering the house, this would take you to a windowed stair well up to the upper level, or alternatively down to the lower level, or directly to a half-bath (ie toilet and hand-basin only).  There’s also a double closet in the entry way.

Going up the stairs, with a landing half way up, takes you to the upper level.  There’s a small area at the top of the stairs with built in bookshelves, with open space looking down to the middle level.  Nice to be used as a small library or with a desk as a private work area.

Walking through the doorway takes you into the master bedroom, which also has open “window spaces” (but no glass) looking into the great room area below.  Continuing through the master bedroom takes you to the master bathroom, with a double sized bath and shower over, plus the usual other stuff.  There’s a wardrobe in the bedroom and another in the bathroom.

Going downstairs takes you to the den (currently in use as an office).  It has a large utilities room, another storage room, and built in cabinets and bookshelves, plus a sliding door to the outside.  It also has a small wetbar area (ie taps and sink and cabinets) on one wall.  There’s a second fireplace, again with glass doors, in the den area immediately below the fireplace upstairs, and a feature of bricks on that part of the wall going up to the ceiling.

Going along the hallway from the den takes you to two more bedrooms, each large enough so a queen sized bed doesn’t fill the room to overflowing, and each with a double wardrobe, plus another full bathroom, and a laundry room.

The house is stated to comprise 2710 sq ft.  I believe this includes the garage but not the deck – whatever is customary when quoting square footages.

Note that it was asbestos-tested about ten years ago and was found to have no asbestos materials.
